Characteristics of high-temperature alloys

1、heat-resistant

Under high temperature environment, the strength of ordinary metal materials will be rapidly reduced. High temperature alloys, however, can maintain high strength even at high temperatures of 600 – 1000°C.

2、Hardness stays good

High-temperature alloys lose their hardness slowly at high temperatures. The hardness mainly comes from the matrix hardness of the alloy and the hardness of the reinforcing phase. Taking tungsten element added high temperature alloy as an example, the melting point of tungsten is as high as 3422°C. After adding tungsten in the alloy, tungsten atoms will enter the matrix lattice or form hard tungsten compounds. These hard phases are able to resist indentation at high temperatures, allowing the hardness of the alloy to remain at a relatively high level at high temperatures, which is important for applications that require cutting at high temperatures or are subject to friction and wear.

3、Excellent antioxidant properties

When materials are exposed to high temperatures, they can easily react with oxygen to form oxides. The surface of high-temperature alloys can form a dense oxide film. In the case of nickel-based high temperature alloys, for example, a dense layer of nickel oxide (NiO) film will form on the surface. This layer of oxidized film can closely cover the surface of the alloy, preventing the further diffusion of oxygen into the alloy.
